The sounds, silences, rhythms and harmonies of the world are among those things that stir my soul, quicken my pulse, fire my synapses, and bring me joy. It is in the myriad possibilities and combinations of these things that I experience the Divine and come to know myself more fully and clearly. To borrow the words of the contemplative monastic Thomas Merton:
"My worship is a blue sky and ten thousand crickets in the deep
wet hay of the field.
My vow is the silence under their song."
Formerly a college instructor, currently I enjoy my life as an independent scholar, composer, musician, and urban farmer. I collaborate with my wife Catherine, our children, and other folks. Additionally, I operate a small landscaping business that focuses on lawn removal and replacement with sustainable, drought-tolerant, native species. Working outside feeds my soul and keeps me grounded in things that matter. Please feel free to browse through "Of Landscapes and Labyrinths" or visit my business website to learn more about Naturescapes: Sustainable Landscape Solutions. Thanks!
